Cipriani 25 Broadway located in lower Mahattan across from the iconic Wall Street Bull is one of many of New York’s magnificent landmarks.
Built in the 1920s and designed by the famed architect Benjamin Wistar Morris, Cipriani 25 Broadway is an Italian neo-renaissance masterpiece, with its opulent interiors featuring soaring 65-foot ceilings, carved marble columns and exquisite murals painted by Ezra Winter.
I have designed many wedding cakes for events here and I’m always challenged by the monumental proportions and beauty of the space. My main goal in designing this evanescent confection, was not only to create a memorable, delicious & beautiful centerpiece wedding cake for my clients, but one that would harmonize with the luxurious wedding surroundings and the other carefully curated design elements.
I worked closely with Victoria (bride), her lovely mother Nannette and Tracy, principal and owner of Tracy Taylor Ward Design, a luxury NYC Wedding & Floral Design company. Tracy provided me with a vast array of visual inspiration, for the wedding florals, she had dreamed of beautiful fall blooms in delicate custom shades of whites, creams, cool greens and the palest blushes and blues. Blue is my favorite color so I was delighted to be able to work with it.
For her wedding cake, the bride wished to have a sophisticated & elegant cake design with a subtle floral pattern on some of the cake tiers and an opulent & luxuriant cascade of sugar flowers encircling the gold & ivory towering cake.
These are the wedding cake sketches. As you can see one of the middle tiers has the bride & groom initials interlocked; these were drawn using the same floral pattern used on rest of the cake tiers for an understated custom look.
It took my staff 2 weeks to finish the intricate sugar flowers. We created peonies, spray roses, garden roses, lisianthus, delphiniums, hydrangeas, freesia, ranunculus, olive & dusty miller leaves.
Gilded molded fondant borders encircled each tier and add a luxurious detail.
