We always try to match the cake to the event; in this case the event was an elegant wedding at Rosecliff, one of the most iconic mansions in Newport, Rhode Island. Reminiscent of bygone eras, with its ornate painted ceilings and intricate moldings, Rosecliff has served as the setting of several classic movies, including The Great Gatsby, Heaven’s Gate, and True Lies.

We created a 5-tier ivory wedding cake embellished with fine piped filigree & scrolls that were gilded to add some glam, with a sugar flower topper and masses cascading on the sides. Sugar flowers included  peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, spray roses, sweet peas, and dendobrium orchids in shades of soft peach, cream, and blush.

Fondant gilded pearls were added to the bottom of each tier as a finishing touch.

The couple’s five-tier wedding cake was made from layers of toasted almond cake with dulce de leche over apricot preserves and vanilla mousseline, and dark chocolate cake with raspberry mousseline and bittersweet ganache over raspberry preserves. All tiers were finished in Vanilla Meringue Buttercream and a thin layer of Swiss ivory fondant brushed with edible pearl dust.
